A Very Frosty Morning

I drew the curtains early this morning to find the world outside frosted over.  We have had very few frosts so far this winter, this was the best one so far, the temperature has dropped to -2 deg., which after all the mild weather we have been having, came as quite a shock to my fingers and toes.

The farmer still has his cows out in the back field, usually they are in the cattle sheds, warm and dry.  I expect there are a few frozen udders this morning.

All those plants that have dared to flower will be shocked also, pity the poor bulbs that are poking through the soil, thinking that Spring was round the corner.  A few more weeks yet my beauties.

The sun is shining bright now and the frost will soon be melted, the heating has been turned up a notch and a hot bath is calling to bring life back to my frozen bones.

  1. Frost is so pretty! I've just read Robin Lane Fox's weekly column in the FT and doesnt he just go on about the half-hardy pretties, like Cyclamen, that have been planted out? Will they survive your frost? Whether yes or no, I am sure they were enjoyed for whatever time they graced a windowbox!

  2. I hope the farmer puts those cows under cover soon. The weathermen are forecasting at least 2 more days of frost. We didn't thaw out today, birdbath still frozen and lawn still covered in frost.

  3. It was crunchy and sparkly with us too. -2 isn't too bad as long as it's not windy!

  4. Well, the farmer will be getting frosty milk shakes from those cows. I do like the pretty photo of them in the frost covered field. I bet those cows are wishing they were California cows about now.

  8. I rushed out yesterday with my camera with the hope to capture frosted plants and the only frost we had was on the grass. I am glad that I have the opportunity to share the lovely photos that others have taken. :-)

  9. We had gentle frosts yesterday morning too, very pretty but I do worry for all the early shoots as well!
The cows have left our fields for the winter, and have been replaced by sheep. They looked pretty chilly in the morning too.

  10. We had a hard frost on Saturday and some beautiful crisp, winter's sunshine. I do like weather like this it makes a change from the dull, mild weather we seem to have had a lot of this winter. But I had got all psyched up for Spring. Guess I'll just have to be patient - not one of my strong points.

I'd like the mild weather back now!!! Getting very bored of scraping the car now and waiting ages for it to warm up.
