Seven things I like about Autumn

Now is the time I start thinking about digging out my warmer winter clothes and finally saying goodbye to summer.

We have had our first delivery of logs in anticipation of the colder weather - and although the log store looks full - the pile soon diminishes - but what could be nicer than a lovely log fire on a winters' evening.

I spend more time walking in the autumn when there is less to do in the garden - and toasted crumpets with butter and honey are a favourite warm-up treat after a brisk walk in the country.

And maybe some hot chocolate

Ready for a good dose of kicking through the autumn leaves that pile up - something I haven't quite grown out of since childhood.

And collecting conkers, I can't resist those shiney, chestnut coloured nuts - hiding in the grass - if I can get to them before the squirrels do, of course.

  1. Elaine this is a lovely post, nice woollies ,boots and the gorgeous conkers. There is something so wonderful about Autumn. I have just started to read Antonio Carluccio's auto biog and he waxes lyrical about searching for Funghi in Autumn. My lodger Radek is a czech and has told me stories of how he and his brother were taught which ones are safe to eat . Perhaps we need to hibernate! Ho!

  2. We have no autumn in the Philippines, but reading this, I might as well been experiencing the season right here...Looking at the lovely images, I seem being tugged; now I know...it's thoreau's walden and his account of the seasons....

  5. A lovely autumn post including a beautiful song. But autumn forever? I don't think so, All seasons have their own charms. Nice pictures with All ingredients for a cosy and warm autumn.

  6. Love your autumnal likes... agree about the crumpets and kicking up leaves especially! For me I would have to include roasted chestnuts and brussels sprouts when they have been touched by the first frost! Somehow they taste sweeter for it. Hearty soups and stews. Brisk walks - hmm. Would be lovely if I could still manage them!

  7. I'm with you all the way here, Elaine! Autumn is my very favourite season! I don't even mind raking up leaves - I just think of them as another harvest and look forward to some beautiful leafmould.

  9. Hi Elaine, really, I haven't been ignoring you. I am just very busy with work and tired at the end of the day. I am sorely neglecting my blog and blog friends. You photos for these last two posts are gorgeous. I love the photos of the berries and your fall leaves. I am glad I stopped by.

  11. How lovely, capturing all that is great about autumn! A really cheering post. The sun is out here today though grey clouds around but they just seem to accentuate the lovely autumn colours, leaves are just starting to turn here.

  12. It is a bit chilly here this evening, but I feel warmer just looking at the pile of wool sweaters and the toasty fire. It is such a nice time of year for a walk. The cold weather makes hot chocolate and crumpets with honey a nice treat to come home to.
