Husband thinks it looks Victorian – where’s Charles Dickens when you need him?

“I have always thought of Christmastime, when it has come round...as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.”
Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

  5. Charles seems to be right where you need him. Your mantle is lovely, especially the greens. Here they would cost a fortune at the florist. Merry Christmas, Elaine

  6. It looks lovely. I really must plant some Cotoneaster here. The bees love it so much - and I'd love some of the red, hollyberry Cotoneaster for Christmas displays, too.
    Happy Christmas!

  7. Holly does not grow on the prairies so for decades I have missed having it in the house for Christmas. Here in my coastal house I have three bushes and you can bet the house will benefit from it. In Calgary you pay a fortune for it. We boxed up some for friends and mailed it to them. Now I'm thinking a truckful for next year. Extra funds for retirement.

  13. Your mantle piece looks wonderful. My husband always groans when I bring in the greenery at Christmas, but it wouldn't be the same without it!
