today was a good day …

The weather was dry and bright, the sun came out and lured me into the garden.  I played out there till three in the afternoon – I called it a day when my feet started to get cold.  I began attacking another Viburnam bush that had outgrown its space  and was beginning to smother a more beautiful climbing rose.   They are such thugs, I planted them for wind breaks originally, but am now beginning to regret that decision.  You can see how much space it was taking up in the foreground of the picture.

It felt good to be working outdoors – gardening usually takes a back seat at this time of year and I felt a bit out of practice, but give me a pair of secateurs and some loppers and I can quite easily lose myself in the shrubbery for a few hours – I am a tired, but happy, bunny.

  1. It’s good to get out in the garden, even in December, I try to get outside as often as I can as long as it isn’t raining too much – there’s always something to do! We were promised some sunshine today but if was oh so brief, the rest of the day was cold, damp and gloomy. I planted the rest of my tulips and I am now ready for spring :-)

  3. It was a beautiful sunny, warm (ish), day here yesterday too. My instructions were, log sawing, vine pruning and leaf sweeping. I completed my tasks.

  6. There's nothing like gardening for getting into a state of time-defying calm. And then a nice cup of tea.

  7. Glad you had a good day! I have to be outside when the sun shines too, at the moment. It's been so gloomy recently that sunny days seem very special.

  10. No working in the garden here; winter has a cold grip on us.

  11. Some gorgeous golden colours there. I love being outdoors on cold crisp days, I just hate the wind and rain that we have today. Foul it is.xxx

  12. Sounds like a perfect day. One of my winter projects is attempting to dig out the ginormous viburnum that has been lefft to take over a section of the front garden. It has suckered all over the place! I love the winter flowers but will not be replanting any of the offshoots...

  13. It's probably a welcome change from slaving over a hot keyboard, isn't it?

  14. Maybe I'll ship you out here with your pruners and loppers so you can impose some order to my shrubs!
