Where does the time go? …

Some days the time goes by and you wonder where the day has gone, sometimes you wonder where the month has gone.  Today was one of those days when I worked on automatic pilot and before I knew it evening had arrived.

So, what did I do with my day that made it go so fast without me realising it.  I kept busy I suppose.  Making lentil soup for lunch, a batch of soda bread (my first attempt) which turned out rather well, I think, anyway it tasted okay dunked into the soup.  Reading in between jobs – finishing an excellent book called Once Upon a River by Bonnie Jo Campbell, one of those books that you don’t want to end, but you really do because you want to know what happens, then you want to start reading it all over again.  Going out for my daily walk, only half an hour or so but  I really miss it if I don’t get out for a bit, seeing what’s going on in the village, stopping to talk to others who are doing the same thing.

I think a routine helps in the winter – it doesn’t change much from week to week but it provides a structure to work within.  Most days I sit and work on my writing for an hour then start thinking about making dinner after which I pick up my needlepoint and sew for a while, and before I know it, it’s time for bed.  Well I guess that’s where my day went.

Do you find the same thing happens to you – where the day just whizzes by and you wonder where it has gone?

  1. Sounds like a very productive and enjoyable day ~ reading, sewing, writing, baking, cooking, walking, chatting ~ and taking photos to boot! I like to accomplish something during the day, but probably could use my time a lot wiser for the most part!

I remember baking soda bread in a greased coffee can with ribs on it, years ago. When it was baked, the bottom end was opened and the whole thing pushed through the top. It looked nice in its roly poly way, and the sliced rounds were a little different! You've brought back memories, so now I'll have to see if I can find a can like I remember. Rambling on here... ;) Lovely photos ~

  2. It's 5.30am and I'm waiting for the nurse to come and draw some blood from my arm. If I didn't start the day early, I would never get everything done (and, presumably, nor would the nurse).

  4. I do indeed, it's rare that I have a day that seems to really drag.
Like you I like to get out for a walk most days, even if it's a brief one.
    Lovely photos. Flighty xx

  7. Like you I like to get out and have a walk each day if I can. Those days seem to get off to a good start and go quickly - occasionally a day can seem to 'drag' along but that is usually down to me - half wanting to get things done the other half in a 'can't be bothered' mood. I too wonder about the Norfolk Pudding - it looks like meringue over apples?

  8. I do wonder where the days go at this time of year - they're so short. And it seems like evening begins very early now. I love the look of the soda bread; I've never made it and I must try it. I'm intrigued by the Norfolk Pudding, too!

  11. Norfolk Pudding is a recipe in a book called 'The Wartime Kitchen' - basically it is a sweet batter pudding not unlike Toad in the Hole but with apples and sultanas instead of sausages

  12. The bread and the pudding look delicious!
I find the days go very quickly, especially now we have the dark nights, which I hate as I don't feel like doing much once it gets dark....but of course there are lots of dogs needing walks so I have to don my winter warmers and get going.xxx

  14. It does Elaine. Time has speeded up, that's the only way I can account for it.

  16. Time is a fickle beast, I frequently turn round and feel I have been robbed of hours, days, weeks. Your bread looks fabulous.
