rain rain go away ...

2014-01-10

Top row: tulips, twigs and sunset

Middle row: hellebore, tulips and a walk by the canal

Bottom row: sunrise, pen and ink drawing, tulips

I am sure I am not the only one fed up with the rain, it has been non-stop for the past week, interminable, constant rain.  Depressing, yes!  Scurrying in and out to fetch logs, feed the birds, put out the re-cycling.  I know, I know ~ we should celebrate the weather whatever it throws at us, but I'm afraid I can't.  I have occupied myself with reading orgies and a little pen and ink sketching, cooking, cleaning, de-cluttering, but cabin fever is setting in.

I am quite happy to see the back of January - it was rubbish.

  2. It's so rainy still, spring flowers seem out of place.

  3. It's the horrible greyness of it all that I don't like.

    1. Me too, it seems to weigh down on me, but I felt my mood lighten this morning when the grey lifted and the sun came out for a couple of hours - hallelujah.

  5. It has been so dark and wet,I have been sewing and visiting my Mum in London ,the fields all the way through Somerset were flooded and water was laying on the ground in most counties as the train went up. The garden is a mess but at least our leek was fixed before this lot. Chin up Elaine ,you will soon get back to the soil even if it does look like the trenches in WW1. all the best Angela

    1. Nice to hear from you Angela - I know I shouldn't moan when others are having a dreadful time of it.

    1. I laughed at the "leek" being fixed. Your weather sounds dreadful. Hope it improves - mind you when it does ours will start to deteriorate into autumn and winter.

  7. I agree Elaine, am glad to see the back of January, such a depressing, miserable month. Spring just around the corner, maybe? x

  9. Lovely photos to cheer away this perpetual gloom. We managed a quick muddy walk this morning before the rain came back with a vengeance! The subject of your pencil drawing looks like Jean Shrimpton :)

    1. No rain this morning but as I speak grey clouds are rolling in - hey ho! And you are right - it is Jean Shrimpton - my 60's idol.

  10. It's certainly been a week for armchair gardening!
Let's hope that this month is a better, and drier, one. Flighty xx

  11. Well, Elaine, we have snow. Not as much as the east coast, but about six inches and more falling. After all it is winter. And yes, I love your assessment of January: rubbish. I am chuckling. Stay warm and dry and dream of daffodils and tulips.

    1. There isn't much we can do about the weather is there - but having a good moan helps.

  12. Same here in Ireland. Wind, rain and storms for weeks now. Land is saturated. We have been busy finishing off the decoration in the house. Ready for gardening now...whenever it decides to dry up. Soon I hope!

    1. Well at least you have been able to do something useful whilst the weather has been so bad or you may have been tempted outside and all the inside jobs will still be waiting.

  13. I'm fed up of the rain too, a brief respite today with some sunshine but rain back again now with some big gusts of rain. Enjoy your reading.

    1. This time last year I was moaning about how much it was snowing this year it's the rain - as you have maybe gathered - I am not a winter person.

  14. I can only repeat what you and others have said - January will never be my favourite month anyway and the constant rain has just made the short days miserable. But at least it's light until 5pm now!

    1. The lighter nights are just about the only consolation Wendy - hopefully in another month we will be able to spend more time out of doors where we are happiest.

  15. Oh it's been rubbish hasn't it! I do hope you managed to get some sunshine today, it seemed to make a longer appearance (probably as much as the whole of January put together!). Take care. xx

Cabin fever....sighs, you and me both, I'm SICK of being soaked and dread walking the dogs....I'm on my second cold too, I think it's the endless drenchings...I do love the extra hour of daylight though, it's great to have daylight until 5 pm....roll on march, how we wish out lives away!xxx

    1. Poor old Snowbird - these last few weeks I have been glad I don't have to walk dogs in the pouring rain any more - hope your cold gets better soon - we will all feel better knowing that spring is just around the corner.

  19. I am glad January is over and done with as well. For us it has been freezing cold temperatures and tons of snow. Bad weather certainly can wear on you.
P.S. I laughed at the first comment regarding the reading "orgies".You always seem to be reading something interesting!

    1. It has been a funny winter for us - much milder than normal - it makes me think that winter hasn't done with us yet - February can be one of the worst months. I have been reading much more than usual being stuck indoors - not that I mind - nothing better than settling in front of the fire with a good book.

  20. Its the first Winter in 5 years, that I haven't gotten something positive done down my plots in January (and February so far). Global dimming will be worse than global warming!!

  21. I know you've had it far worse down in your part of the world - but I'm sure you will soon catch up once the weather is back to normal - hope so anyway.

  22. Roll on spring Elaine, that's what I say! I've had enough of the miserable rain and windy weather. X
