Missing You Already

It’s a funny thing – but when I think about leaving home for one of our little trips to the coast – I get kind of homesick even before we have left.  At the weekend we shall be packing up the car and heading off into the wild blue yonder – breathing in the salty air, feeling the sand between our toes and watching the surf rolling in.  Taking walks in pine forests, watching sea birds swoop and dive, walking coastal paths – eating food prepared by someone else for a change – jaws dropping at the wonder of it all.

And yet – I shall miss my little home and my slightly bedraggled garden.  One last look around, taking pictures of all that is dear – then driving off without a backward glance.  For when we return it will all be just where we left it – the garden requiring attention – the house a little dustier – mail piled up behind the front door – just as it is good to get away – it will be good to be back.

  3. Hello Elaine,

We know just what you mean. We never wish to go then we never wish to leave where we have gone. Curious.

Still, it is so good to enjoy being at home. The familiarity if it all is so comforting. And yes, it will all be there, as will we, on your return! Enjoy!

  10. I think we all suffer separation anxiety when we first leave and once we settle into the vacation routine, do we really want to home so soon? We haven't gone anywhere all summer, too much tondo this year, so you go off, take lots of photos, and come back and tell us all about your get away.

  11. I find it hard to leave my home and the garden Elaine.
I tend to leave holidays until late autumn or winter.
I would not go away in the summer, I find the heat too much as I get older, most annoying. Never used to be like this .........
Also rabbits would do so much damage during the summer months.

I hope you have a wonderful trip. Enjoy the salty air and sand between your toes :)
I need to be here with my little dog :)

  25. Hope you're having a good week, Elaine. I like to make sure that all is tidy and welcoming at home before I leave. Maybe if I went away more, it work become more casual to just step out of the door and trot off. I'm working on it, starting with a visit to Leeds in a couple of weeks to bring my boy up to Uni.

  26. You've made holidays sound sad! I know what you mean though about being homesick and that funny feeling as you close the front door. You say about things being more or less the same when you return but I find they aren't. Not for a bit. The house always seems strange and different, however relieved I am to return.

    Have a good time away!
