Sweet Violets

Vioa Odorata
I have little patches of Sweet Violets all over the garden.  Where did they come from?  No one knows.  They just arrive and spread.

Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it. - Mark Twain

The splendour of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not rob the little violet of its scent nor the daisy of its simple charm.  If every tiny flower wanted to be a rose, spring would lose its loeliness. - Therese of Lisieux

Half-hidden from the eye
Fair as a star - when only one
Is shining in the sky

  2. I love violets as well, but they don't do well in a garden bed. They want to spread. If I had a field where I could grow wildflowers, they would be perfect in that setting.

  4. I think violets can bring out the prose in just about anyone. Maybe not quite as good as that cited, but something special and deserving the little purple peeper.

  6. Gorgeous aren't they and just everywhere at the moment. Parts of the Priory lawn are covered in them. That second shot is perfect. Dave

  7. Hi Elaine, We may be an ocean apart, but we have the same little violets in both out gardens. Here they grow in the sun and in the shade. They are surprising and turn up unexpectedly wherever their seed happens to land. The dogs trample them and yet they soldier on. And they pretty! What's not to love?

  9. I have those little violets pop up and they become so pervasive that I have t pull them out. I don't know where they come from either, but they do become a nuisance because they will take over a garden spot. Lovely verses to honor them.
