rambling on about . . . my daily routines going to pot . . .

A routine has been established with the dogs – my own has gone to pot.  Only one walk in the rain so far.  This morning the wind has dropped and the sun shines burnishing the leaves to gold, and crows are silhouetted against an azure blue sky.

Rufus is my constant companion, whither I go, so goes he. After the first night when he began howling at one in the morning, he now sleeps on the bed in the crook of my knees.  A bad habit I know, but one I am prepared to put up with for a good nights sleep.SDC19060   Poppy is getting on a bit, so sleeps whenever and wherever.  The only problem now is trying to stop them eating horse poo which they seem to have a taste for, and as this is horse country, there is plenty of poo for them to have a go at.

I have been taking a few photos in the garden and playing around with them for a bit of fun.

And in between all things dog-related I have also been trying to map out some ideas for the November novel writing month which begins in a couple of days.  It has been hard to concentrate this week and slow progress has been made, maybe I won’t complete the 50,000 words this time around, but at least the seed will have been sown, and I can always continue when the competition is over.

SDC19038So, only three more days before my neighbours return from their holiday – looking after someone else’s dogs  has certainly been an experience – not sure I would want to repeat it, but they are loveable little creatures and have won a place in my heart.

  1. Hi, it's nice to find someone else who is going to be doing NaNoWriMo this year :-) I did it last year and felt so chuffed with myself that I managed to finish it. I'm frantically trying to come up with an idea at the moment but time is rapidly running out. Good luck with your writing xxx

    1. Exactly how I felt Kay - trying to write 1700 words a day was certainly a challenge. I know what I want to write about this year - it's just trying to fit all the pieces together into a coherent whole. Good luck to you too.

    1. I will miss them as they make me laugh with their play-fights, when Rufus sits on top of Poppy, and Poppy leaps at him bouncing like bambi. I won't miss the dog hairs though, when I vacuumed this morning I couldn't believe how much of their coats they had shed.

  3. They look adorable and the pups do keep us lively! I don't know if I could stand to not have one or two hairy little ones always about! You are a very good neighbor!

  6. Lovely companions by the sound of it, and I like that that last picture. The garden pictures are certainly different.
Good luck with NaNoWriMo. Flighty xx

  7. They do look a little like double adorable trouble....and I have a sneaky feeling you are enjoying Rufus snuggled behind your knees at night, I bet when they go the house will seem awfully quiet!

I did enjoy your arty pics, I especially liked the first one. Good luck with the writing!xxxx

    2. The first one is my favourite - have you ever had a photo made into a pieceof wall art by one of these inline companies. I'm going to have a couple of my photos printed on aluminium for our hall and landing.

    3. Oo that sounds like a good idea for a Christmas present - which online company do you use?

    4. I am using Mydoodle as I have photos uploaded with them that are available for others to use but for some reason they are off-line at the moment and I can't find out what is happening. I've used them for greetings cards too. I also considered using Fine art America but the postage is exorbitant even the Fine Art UK part of the company!

  8. Must admit we are equally naughty when Tivvy comes to stay. At least being a poodle she doesn't shed hair ;) Where does Rufus sleep when at home?

    1. My neighbour says Rufus is restless at night - she made a bed up for me at her place just in case he didn't settle - I have a feeling he ends up on their bed too.

  9. We once dogsat Elaine for my friend's dog and by the time he was picked up after their holiday I'm sorry to say we had totally spoiled him. He had never had so many walks and cuddles.
I wonder if your friend has the dogs on her bed? Maybe you have set a trend!!

I love the colourful garden images - that first one with the blue leaves is so well designed it would look great on the wall...
All the best for NaNoWriMo :)

  13. Fun shots Elaine, but goodness, you must be counting the days until you can return your canine companions to their owners!

  14. I hope you'll take your photo-play images and make them into an abstract garden calendar :-) They're quite fun.
