a humdrum life ...

Sometimes I am just not in the mood to think about blog posts - do you ever feel like that?  I so admire the folk that post everyday and make their posts varied and interesting - like Cro at Magnon's Meanderings who has just completed his 1,500th post and has a letter from the queen to prove it (not).  I fear I would bore you to death if I did that as my life is just so ...humdrum.

I suppose I could tell you that I received a parcel this morning from across the water containing the book 'A Delicious Life' by Marie over at 66 square feet which I won on the lovely Jennifer's blog Three Dogs in a Garden.

SDC19706      Or I could mention our tree chopping escapades last weekend, cutting the willow branches back that were overhanging the greenhouse, but that would be just boring

SDC19688      Or the fact that we had a grey squirrel in the garden for the first time in many years (no photo as it left as swiftly as it came).

And I doubt you wouldn't be interested in the peacock butterfly that was out and about at the weekend (excuse blurry photo - it was flicking its wings so fast I couldn't press my finger on the trigger quickly enough).

SDC19695      And I won't bother you with the fact that blue tits have been showing interest in the new bird box we have installed because I have no proof, except for the fact that I saw them popping in and out from the bedroom window.

And are you really that interested in the seeds, shallots and seed potatoes that I have bought in anticipation of the new growing season - no, I thought not ...

2014-02-061     And then there is the new needlepoint work I have just begun - you couldn't possibly be interested in that ...

SDC19699  so I won't bother mentioning it ...

The one enjoyable thing I did this week was to watch the new Richard Curtis romcom 'About Time' which I absolutely loved, but beware, tissues are needed at the end - I wept buckets.

SDC19698

So, after all that, I don't think I'll bother with a blog post this week,  as you can see, just another uneventful week in my humdrum life.

  1. I most definitely do not have enough going on in my life to blog about every day - I admire those who can though!

    1. You wouldn't be able to cope with all the hundreds of comments if you posted every day Keith - I don't know how you manage to read everything as it is.

    1. Thanks Snowbird - husband was replacing some boards on the shed - maybe he disturbed it from its hiding place.

    1. I don't believe that for a minute - it seems to me there is always something going on - if it's not twirling squirrels it's the mice or your pet pheasant - more than enough excitement.

    1. Just the opposite Sue - I envy you being able to find something to post about every day - because I sometimes find it hard to do a weekly post.

  6. I can't claim to have an exciting life, yet I seem to manage to find something to write about almost every day. Even in my small garden there is usually something happening, and if there isn't then I find it in the kitchen! Maybe we all need more foreign holidays so that we have stuff to write about that is totally new??

    1. Sorry Mark you obviously didn't understand that I was trying to be humorous - making a post out of nothing much - and I was actually praising those of you who do post every day.

  8. It all sounds very interesting to me! I enjoy needlework but haven't done any in years. I must get back to it! I often struggle to find blog content too, seems to be a 'in the mood' or 'out of the mood' blogging thing - and I'm often half and half!

    1. I think it is always hard at this time of year especially if your blog is gardening based - but when the gardening season starts soon we will all be blogging furiously with plenty to talk about.

  10. I really do not have time enough to blog everyday and i even should not know where to talk about. I admire you about creating a wonderful post about the normal things we do in a week. And.......it remembers me to a cross stitching cushion which is in the cupboard, unfinished.

    1. Writing every day would be a bit like keeping a diary - but sometimes by the time I am ready for bed I can't even remember what I have done all day.

  13. Well, as I always take real pleasure in the sightings of birds, butterflies, flowers and even green shoots (!), then bring on the humdrum!! I'm very interested in that peacock butterfly in February - it just shows how mild it has been. And I'm amazed that you don't get grey squirrels - they're everywhere here. A lovely post!

    1. I think why we don't get many squirrels is that we don't have any large trees nearby and I'm not sure they really like being on the ground to get from one set of trees to another - I'm just making that up but it could be a possibility.

  14. I think you are actually pretty clever to do a post about not doing a post. As one commenter noted even when you are not writing you are writing!
I am so glad that the book arrived! It shipped pretty fast in the end.I think you will enjoy it.
I working on a Ehrman needlepoint pillow a cat. I figure in a house with so many dogs there ought to be a least one cat!

  16. I'm so glad I'm not the only blogger who sometimes gets tired of posting. With my 600th post about to be published I feel that it might be time to retire my blog. Thanks for the recommendation of About Time. I love anything that features Rachel McAdams.

  18. If I had to blog about my life every day, no one would read it. Once a week is all I can manage. But it's always exciting when a creature shows up that you haven't seen in a long time. I agree with Jennifer: I like your post about not posting. :o)

  19. I smiled all through this post, you pinpoint something I have thought about for a long time – how can I come up with something new to post about? I am disabled and housebound, I go nowhere outside my house and tiny garden (except to hospital to see my doctors), and after 3 years of blogging I have shown off every bit of my garden and most of my house. I take around 4000 photos every year of my garden, but blimey, I am certainly not going to post all of them – that would certainly send most people to sleep?!
I could of course start a different type of blog and write about something completely different, but I like (my way of) gardening so that’s what I write about. Posting once a week is more than enough for me and I might drop to less than that at times.
